How it works

1

Paste your list

Names from a spreadsheet, a class register, or typed in. One per line, that is all.

2

Set the rules

How many teams, or how many per team. Mark captains, keep friends together, keep rivals apart.

3

Generate and play

Fair teams in one click, each with a name. Copy them, print them, or re-shuffle.

Why random beats picking by hand

Hand-picked teams always carry the picker’s fingerprints: friends drift together, the strongest players cluster, and the last names called feel like leftovers. A visible random split removes all of that. The shuffle uses browser-grade cryptographic randomness, then deals names one at a time, so sizes stay even and nobody can claim the fix was in. Our guide on how to split teams fairly shows the maths and the worked examples.

Naming deserves the same treatment. Instead of the loudest voice winning, generate a list, star a shortlist, and vote once. It takes about ten minutes and the name survives the whole season. The five-step process is in how to pick a team name, and if you want ready-made lists first, browse team names by category: soccer, basketball, work, trivia, esports and classroom.

Quick answers

Team Generator or Group Generator: which one should I open?

If you are making sides for a game, open the Team Generator. If you are making several small groups for an activity or lesson, open the Group Generator. Both use the same fair shuffle-and-deal method.

Are the tools really free?

Yes, completely. No sign-up, no trial, no daily limit and no watermark on anything you print or copy.

Do you store my class list or roster?

No. Everything runs in your browser, on your device. Your list disappears the moment you close the tab.

Can I print or share the teams?

Yes. Every result has copy and print options, formatted to read out in class or pin to a noticeboard.

Start with the splitter

Thirty seconds from a messy list to teams nobody argues with.
